It’s been a while since I went back to conduct training at HQ. Had a bit of a mix up cos I brought outdated slides to the training =P Thankfully, the problem was sorted out, albeit with a bit of hassle.

Conducting the presentation skills training made me realise there’s actually pretty decent content that can be packaged into a program itself, for budding trainers perhaps. So that’s the next program that I’m gonna come up with: Presentation Skills With NLP And Enneagram.. after my Communication Skills program =P

Latest update on the Search Engine Optimisation project for AZ Education. We’re on page one of Yahoo search for the keywords Singapore Home Tutor and Singapore Tuition Teacher. Pretty good progress in a week =) Next up is offline marketing, which will start next week.

By the way, I have a friend desperately looking for those Mac glasses (lime colour). If you spot any Mac with lime coloured glasses available, do a good deed and let me know =P

Went to a neighbourhood school to conduct a training on Travel and Tourism this morning. The gist of the training revolves around the tourism industry and equipping the students with some knowledge on what it takes to be a Tour Guide (yeah.. in case you’re wondering, I was in tourism for 7 years before becoming a trainer).

Some of the key skills that the students learnt included stuff like presentation skills, interesting stories and facts about Singapore, itinery planning and coordination. There’s gonna be a field trip next week to allow the students to put what they learn into practice.

I must say, conducting a training in a class of over 30 noisy kids is one very interesting experience. Thankfully, I have a loud voice =P Though because of the weather, I was perspiring a lot (it didn’t help that I had to be dressed formally).

Food for thought: Would you rather be a school teacher and deal with kids, or a corporate trainer and deal with adults?

Conducted a License to Sell assessment for Nokia promoters yesterday. The program is part of Nokia’s commitment to ensure that its promoters are well equiped with the knowledge and skills to present accurate and relevant information about Nokia products to customers, while maintaining the highest service standards.

Interestingly, a handful of promoters were pretty edgy and nervous during the face to face assessment, even though they’re experienced and have no problems whatsoever speaking to people. I made some small talk with most of them before and after the actual assessment proper, and they’re perfectly comfortable. It’s only when we enter the proper assessment phase when they start getting nervous.

This is due to a change in their state of mind. As a result, their physiology and speech pattern changes as well. We can credit this change in behaviour as a result of the awareness that they are now being assessed, and the whole meaning of their experience changes.

In essence, they have placed themselves into an assessment “Frame of Mind“. So they begin to exhibit behaviours that correspond with that of being assessed. This is perfectly normal and there’s nothing wrong with it. Having said that, there are ways to place yourself in more empowering states, and you may wish to check out my other communication blog to sign up for free and learn some useful techniques =)

It’s been a while since I’ve been training in KL.. cant wait to see some familiar faces. Staying at the Parkroyal Bukit Bintang this time round. Pretty good location; plenty of shopping around here. More importantly, it’s a short walk away from the training venue at Pavilion =P

Check out pics of the hotel room. Relatively decent, though the picture quality can be better (I’ll need to get my hands on the latest imaging device from Nokia… )

Finished the last installation of communication training for RevoE Orgaisation yesterday. It’s been quite an interesting ride. We started from having just an idea to share with people about interpersonal communication skills, to developing the training content, to looking for attendees, to launching, and finally completing the course.

Still some areas to fine tune. For a start, 20 hours for the whole course seemed long initially, though the amount of sharing and discussions eventually meant that every session was stretched past the allocated time. Nonetheless, great job put together by everyone! Speacial thanks also to Jeraine and Samuel for their kind support and understanding.

Here’s a nice testimonial:

“Highly informative, this course has shed light and provided insight into the communication styles that we take for granted on a daily basis. It brings to focus what essentially is the various ways of using language, gestures and knowledge to create effective communication between people, thereby improving our professional and personal lives. Joel is highly energectic, motivated and very in tune with the students in his course. Open to new perspectives and candid with his personal experiences”
